Tara Lynn featured in French Elle
A post which has been circulating on facebook today caught our attention. It has been shared 27,000 times and attracted 40,000 likes. It features an eye-catching portrait of curvy fashion model Tara Lynn and a very meaningful response to a demeaning advert placed by a gym. At Complexd we celebrate curvy and slim women, but we couldn’t help liking this very clever metaphorical comeback.

POST
‘A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?”
A woman answered the following way:
“Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness. They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.
Mermaids do not exist! But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish? They would have no sex life and could not bear children. Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side? Without a doubt, I’d rather be a whale.
At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends. We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn’t enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated. Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: “How amazing am I?!’”
In response to the woman who gave us the short expaination of the social life of the whales, THANK YOU, BEAUTIFUL.A lover of these beautiful creatures created by God, I’m now 35 lbs heavier than two years ago although I could be healthier, I have never been more comfortable with myself than today! I watch more Nat Geo than my kids watch cartoons and I control the remote! If i had to choose between eating a slice of cake or starving myself to conform to what Western Society considers beautiful, honey I’m eating the whole cake! The only one whom I have to please is God and He looks at the inside, (1 Samuel 16:7) But Jehovah said to Samuel: “Do not look at his appearance and at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For not the way man sees [is the way God sees], because mere man sees what appears to the eyes; but as for Jehovah, he sees what the heart is.”
The media has done more harm than good. Unfortunately they wont admit to being part of the problem. It’s not financialy beneficial. This is way bigger than them! It is up to the individual person to become comfortable in their own skin.
